Baccarat is an exciting and entertaining card game, and every player can learn Baccarat rules to try it online and offline. Baccarat game rules are old as the game itself: this card entertainment has ancient origins and is said to have arisen sometime during the Middle Ages in Italy.

Curious that the word “Baccarat” means Zero or nothing in Italian. The reason for this is quite simple — the value of the cards in Baccarat differs from most other card games, such as the immensely popular Blackjack.

Baccarat rules — the ABC of the game

Baccarat rules are simple: the player plays against the dealer almost all the time. The high cards people usually want on their hand in Blackjack: tens, Jacks, Queen and King aren’t worth anything in Baccarat. Traditionally, their value is shown on a Baccarat rules chart.

Baccarat does not require any major knowledge; the goal is to get as close to a value of 9 as possible. All gamblers have to do in the game is bet on the dealer’s hand, the player’s hand, or tie (tie). Each card in Baccarat has a value, as it was mentioned a little earlier; the high cards are not particularly interesting in the game. Ten and picture cards are counted as 0, Aces are counted as 1 and other cards are counted according to the card’s denominations. For example, an “8” gives eight points.

In the very beginning, a player is given 2 cards. If the player’s hand is valued at 5 or lower, a third card drawing is possible according to Baccarat rules. If the player’s or dealer’s hand is valued at 6 or 7, they must remain and no new card can be drawn. However, if the dealer’s hand is valued at less than 2, a new card must be drawn, and at a hand of between 3 and 6, he can choose to draw a third card depending on the player’s hand. Both the player and the dealer may have a maximum of 3 cards each on the table.

Summarize of rules

Summarizing Baccarat drawing rules, one can get the following picture:

  • If the bank gets 7, 8 or 9, no more cards will be drawn. If players do not draw more cards, the bank draws 0-5 points and stops at 6;
  • If the player gets 2 or 3, the dealer draws 0-4 and stops at 5 or 6;
  • If players get 4 or 5, the dealer draws 0-5 and stops at the value of 6;
  • If the player gets 6 or 7, the dealer draws the value from 0 to 6;
  • If according to Baccarat rules, the player gets 8 then the dealer draws 0-2 and stops at the value 3 to 6;
  • If the player gets 9 via an Ace, the dealer draws 0-3 and stops at the value 4 to 6.

If a hand in the game is 6, 7, 8 or 9 then no more cards are drawn. If a hand has a value of 0-5 points, another card is drawn.

Different forms of Baccarat

Baccarat rules work for the other types and forms of this game, for mini-Baccarat as well. Mini-baccarat is a version of the game where the maximum number of players is seven; the cards are dealt as well as chips and payouts by a single dealer standing on the other side of the table opposite the players.

This Baccarat variant is very similar to the regular Baccarat except that the bet levels are significantly lower, about the same levels as a regular Blackjack table. Chemin de Fer is another game with a bit different rules of Baccarat. There, one of the participating players keeps the bank and pays for the privilege either a fixed sum to the casino or 5% of their winnings. The player who is a bank indicates how much money he is interested in setting up as the bank’s capital and then places the chips on the table in front of him.

Strategies and winning chances

The chances of winning in Baccarat are pretty good, especially if a gambler takes a look at the odds of the game. Betting on the player gives the casino a modest takeover of 1.24%, while a bet on the dealer provides an even lower benefit for the casino of 1.06%.

Despite the 5% commission that a winning bet on the dealer requires, it is definitely the bet that provides the best odds for players. Betting on a draw gives the casino a takeover of 14.4%. It’s a risky move, but the potential reward for this game is huge.

Strategic betting

The strategic approach to Baccarat odds and Baccarat rules is based on the probability of winning. In this case, equality is statistically rare, while the bank wins slightly more frequently than the player. The bet on a tie is rarely won but brings a high amount of winnings (1: 8). The bet on the player’s hand is less profitable (1: 1), but much safer.

The profit probability is not quite 50 to 50, whereby in the case of success no commission for the house is deducted. The bet on the bank at Baccarat, with a probability of a little more than 50 to 50, the greatest chance of success, of course, is less attractive by the pay commission (1: 1 minus 5%).
